Mark Burrows named to present Sydney's Friday and Saturday 6pm bulletins
mark burrows has been named to present Sydney's Friday and Saturday 6pm 9News bulletins after Georgie Gardner stepped down from the role in mid-April. Nine said he will take over the weekend evening desk while Peter Overton remains on the Sunday to Thursday 6pm bulletin.
Burrows called the move “a deep privilege,” saying, “After so many years reporting for Channel 9, it's a deep privilege to step into this role and continue bringing Sydney viewers the stories that matter.” He also said, “9News has always been about trust, accuracy and connection with the audience, and I'm looking forward to continuing that tradition.”
Michael Best on Burrows
9News Sydney director Michael Best said Burrows is “one of the most trusted and experienced journalists in the country” and said he has “reported from the frontlines” with “clarity, credibility and calmness.” Best added, “We are thrilled to have him presenting 9News Sydney's Friday and Saturday 6pm bulletins.”
Burrows has spent 20 years at Channel 9 and will keep filing stories for 9News as a senior correspondent when he is not anchoring the bulletin. His reporting record includes the death of Princess Diana, the Iraq War, the Bali bombings, the Sydney Olympics, the wars in Afghanistan and Ukraine, plus a Logie Award for coverage of the Romanian Revolution and a Walkley Award for reporting on the Interlaken canyoning disaster in Switzerland.
Georgie Gardner at Nine
Gardner's departure in mid-April ended nearly a quarter-century at Nine. Her replacement keeps the Friday and Saturday 6pm Sydney bulletins with a journalist already in the network's news operation, while Overton continues on the weeknight editions from Sunday through Thursday.
