Armed police respond after Burnley Stabbing in Brierfield

Police were called to Wood Street in Brierfield at 3.06pm on 12 June after a burnley stabbing left a 17-year-old girl with a neck injury. Armed officers attended, and a 30-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder.

Lancashire Police said the girl was taken to hospital for treatment to a stab wound in the back of her neck. The force also said a cordon was put in place at the scene, narrowing access around Wood Street while officers dealt with the incident.

"We were called at 3.06pm today to Wood Street, Brierfield, to a report of stabbing," a Lancashire Police spokesperson said. "It was reported that a 17-year-old girl had been assaulted and suffered a stab injury to her neck."

The spokesperson said, "Officers, some of them armed, attended and a 30-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder." The man was named as Paul in the material provided.

Evening patrols in Brierfield

Police said the local community would be alarmed by the attack and planned extra patrols in the area that evening to provide reassurance. They also asked anyone who witnessed the stabbing, or had CCTV or doorbell footage from the area, to contact 101 and quote log 0836 of 12th June.

For residents and people using Wood Street, the immediate practical step is to pass on anything they saw or recorded. Lancashire Police has asked for footage and information through 101, while the scene response and evening patrols point to continued police presence in the area.
