Antonee Robinson Emerges as Manchester United Left-Back Target
Manchester United are monitoring antonee robinson as a possible left-back option. The Fulham defender has emerged as one of two names under consideration as the club looks to strengthen a position where Luke Shaw is the only senior specialist.
The move comes with Tyrell Malacia leaving this summer and Patrick Dorgu expected to continue in a more attacking role under Michael Carrick. United also have Champions League football to look forward to, which raises the level of depth they need across the squad.
Robinson and Lewis Hall
Robinson is one of two left-back targets being watched, with Lewis Hall the other. Hall joined Newcastle United from Chelsea for £28m two years ago, and United continued to monitor him in March.
That leaves United weighing a proven Premier League option against a player Newcastle would be expected to value highly. Robinson is expected to attract interest again this summer, while Hall remains a name already on the club's list.
Shaw's role at United
Shaw's status is part of the calculation. He is the only senior left-back in the squad, and his contract runs out next summer, so United are acting before the position becomes even thinner.
Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can fill in there if required, but neither changes the basic picture: the club are still short of a natural specialist. Harry Amass also had his season cut short after injury at Norwich in January, which removed another option from the pathway.
Goalkeeper plans at Carrington
The left-back search sits alongside another recruitment plan in goal. United are exploring back-up goalkeeper options after Andre Onana returned from his loan at Trabzonspor and is not expected to get a chance to compete for the No 1 jersey in pre-season.
Altay Bayindir is also likely to leave, while United are considering options to support Senne Lammens after his impressive debut season in goal. Radek Vitek, despite a successful loan spell at Bristol City last season, is not expected to be the back-up goalkeeper option and is expected to continue his career elsewhere.
For Robinson, the timing fits a summer when United want stronger cover immediately, not later. For the club, the wider question is whether they move quickly enough to secure a left-back before the market pushes the price higher.
