England 6-0 Miami FC as Ivan Toney Hits Hat Trick Soccer

England beat Miami FC 6-0 on Thursday in a closed-door hat trick soccer friendly at the end of its West Palm Beach training camp, and Ivan Toney scored three times. The match gave England extra work for players who had not featured against Costa Rica, and it finished behind closed doors with no media or fans present.

Toney Leads England

Toney scored the hat-trick in a game that England controlled after a slow first period. England scored once in the opening 25 minutes and five times after halftime, when both teams made wholesale changes.

The structure was unusual even by friendly standards. The match was split into two 25-minute halves, and the second period produced the burst that stretched the scoreline to 6-0.

West Palm Beach Setup

The game came at the end of England’s training camp in West Palm Beach and followed wins over New Zealand, 1-0 last Saturday, and Costa Rica, 3-0 on Wednesday. It was part of Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup preparation and was used to give more minutes to players who had not played against Costa Rica.

Miami FC entered the match seventh in the Eastern Conference of the USL Championship and 12 points behind leaders Tampa Bay Rowdies. The club was also preparing for its own match against Oakland Roots on Saturday, making the friendly a different kind of workload from its league schedule.

Tuchel And Henderson

Victor Lonchuk said Tuchel told Miami FC’s coaching staff: “Play in any shape you guys want with any game model. We just want to see what we can do against you”. Lonchuk added that at the end of the game, Tuchel “was fantastic” and “was picking up towels and bottles that were left on the field.”

He also singled out Jordan Henderson, calling him “fantastic” and saying, “He was super aggressive — not in a way that he is going to hurt people but in getting close to our players, with intensity.” Lonchuk added, “It was impressive to see that kind of player with that career doing that in a friendly game.”

For England, the result added another clean sheet and another goal-heavy second half to a camp that now ends with a 6-0 win and a Toney hat-trick. For players on the edge of the group, the message was simple: the minutes were there, and Toney made the most of them.
