Spain Top Group K to Set Up England Clash at Darts World Cup
Spain have set up a darts world cup second-round clash with England after Cristo Reyes and Jose Justicia topped Group K in Frankfurt. Reyes finished the job with a 145 checkout on the bull, sending Spain through in the World Cup of Darts for the first time in this format.
England Await Reyes and Justicia
Luke Humphries and Luke Littler now face the Spain pair in the last 16, with the tournament running June 11-14 in Frankfurt. England’s route has been shaped by Spain’s winner-takes-all shoot-out against Japan’s Motomu Sakai and Haruki Muramatsu, a match that decided the group and locked in the second-round meeting.
Spain needed that finish because Group K came down to one match. Reyes and Justicia beat Sakai and Muramatsu in the decisive tie, and the 145 checkout on the bull ended the group with Spain on top rather than leaving the bracket open.
Wales, USA and Belgium Advance
Wales reached the second round with a 4-1 victory over Thailand, then learned they will face the USA after Stowe Buntz and Adam Sevada beat Canada 4-2. Jonny Clayton and Nick Kenny still needed to take two legs against Thailand in Group C, and Clayton closed it with 71 on tops.
That win kept Wales moving as two-time World Cup of Darts winners, even with Gerwyn Price unavailable this year and Kenny stepping in. Belgium also moved on from Group B after Slovenia beat Hong Kong 4-2, and Mike De Decker and Dimitri van den Bergh will now meet reigning champions Northern Ireland on Saturday.
Netherlands, Norway and Ireland
The Netherlands will face Sweden after Gian van Veen and Michael van Gerwen won their first outing together 4-1 against Mongolia in Group F. Norway also survived a last-leg thriller against Hungary in Group L and will play Scotland in the next round, while the Republic of Ireland reached the last 16 with a 4-2 victory over Switzerland.
The bracket is now taking shape fast in Frankfurt. For England, the immediate change is simple: Spain are next, and Reyes and Justicia arrive with a group-topping win and a 145 finish behind them.
