Müller catches the joke
Thomas Müller said, “Wir haben es natürlich mitbekommen.” He also made clear the group was not hiding from the discussion, adding, “Wir diskutieren natürlich leidenschaftlich.”
The Germany forward kept the tone light while defending the room around the squad. “Wir sind riesige Fans der Mannschaft und des Turniers,” he said, then added, “Wir diskutieren sachlich, wenn es um den Sport geht.”
That did not stop him from pointing out the edge in the conversation. “Aber wer uns beide kennt: Da ist immer ein bisschen Schmäh mit dabei,” Müller said, before warning that “Da kann natürlich auch mal was rausrutschen, was populistisch verwendet werden kann, wenn man das denn will.”

Klopp later repeated the same word in the live pre-show setting, and Müller answered in kind. Asked whether he had already tested the pitch, Müller said, “Noch nicht, aber er sieht super aus.” After checking the surface, he followed up with, “Noch ist der Rasen ein bisschen trocken.”
Klopp then pointed out the repetition: “Jetzt hast du das Wort,noch‘ zweimal benutzt.” Müller’s reply kept the exchange going without turning it sharp: “Ach so, ja. Eigentlich für dich gepachtet. Hab nicht gewusst, dass du es exklusiv gebucht hast.”
Nagelsmann shuts it down
Julian Nagelsmann was asked about the remark at a press conference before the Curaçao match, but he did not want to comment further and blocked the question. That left the talk around his future and the lineup exactly where it started: in public, but without a response from the coach himself.
Klopp later moved the discussion back to the squad and the starting XI, saying, “Eine Diskussion ist ja keine Diskussion, die wir angefangen haben, als es um die Aufstellung ging.” He added, “Sondern wir sprechen über den Kader und über Optionen,” before finishing, “Ich bin mehr als happy mit der Anfangsformation,” and “Ich wünsche den Jungs einfach, dass sie so ein Gefühl für das Turnier entwickeln.”
For Germany, the immediate issue is simple: the opener against Curaçao began with the noise around one word, one grin, and one coach who chose not to extend it any further.
