Thomas Muller Backs Deniz Undav Over Musiala for Curaçao
Deniz Undav said he was very pleased after thomas muller and Jürgen Klopp backed him to start over Jamal Musiala for Germany’s World Cup opener against Curaçao on Sunday. The Germany attacker said the coach has many options, and that it does not matter who starts in the end.
Undav Welcomes Muller’s Support
Undav said he was happy to hear the comments from Müller and Klopp. He added that Müller knows a lot about football, and that any criticism or praise from him is well-founded.
“First of all, I was very pleased. That shows I’m doing something right. The coach has many options. In the end, it doesn’t matter who starts. You can rely on those who will play. But I was happy to hear that from the two of them. And now we’ll see who plays.”
He also said he values Müller’s judgments because they come with good intentions. “I think it’s good because Thomas knows a lot about football. If he has something to criticize or praise, then it’s probably well-founded. I’m happy when someone like Thomas criticizes or praises me. If he criticizes me, then of course he does it with a good intention, so that I can do better next time. Therefore: No matter what Thomas says, he’s entitled to it.”
Germany’s Musiala Call
Thomas Müller and Klopp said Undav should start over the Bayern Munich star. Bild reported that Julian Nagelsmann will not change his mind on Musiala and will ride the hot hand of Undav.
That leaves Undav, a VfB Stuttgart goal scorer, in the middle of a selection debate before Sunday’s opener. Against Curaçao, the choice may not carry the same weight it will in tougher games ahead, but it still sets the tone for how Germany opens the tournament.
Nagelsmann’s First Choice
For now, the main question is whether Nagelsmann leans into the support around Undav or stays with Musiala. Either way, the bench call will shape the first attacking lineup Germany sends out on Sunday.
