Jan Paul Van Hecke: Brighton Rejects Two Tottenham Bids
Brighton rejected two Tottenham bids for jan paul van hecke last week, and the chase has not slowed since. Paul Barber said the club turned down both offers over the last week or so, while Van Hecke still has one year left on his Brighton contract.
Barber sets Brighton's stance
Barber spelled out the position at the weekend: "Yes, we have rejected a bid from Tottenham over the last week or so. In fact, two bids," he said. He added: "There is always going to be a lot of interest in our best players and certainly in the case of Jan Paul."
That leaves Brighton holding firm on a defender they brought in from NAC Breda in 2020 for an initial £1.8m. The club are still dealing with Tottenham's interest even as the Dutch international enters the final year of his deal.
Spurs' Vuskovic valuation
Talks around Van Hecke sit inside a wider centre-back move for Tottenham. A deal is expected to move quickly once an agreement is reached on Luka Vuskovic's valuation, and Brighton have already put in a £30m bid for the 19-year-old.
Vuskovic shone on loan at Hamburg last season and scored six league goals in Germany's top flight, which has helped drive the price discussion between the clubs. For Brighton, the immediate outcome is simple: two Spurs bids have been turned away, and the defender remains on their books unless the two sides bridge the gap.
