Khabib Nurmagomedov Helped Turn 500-Fighter Dagestan Brawl
Islam Makhachev said khabib nurmagomedov showed up during a massive schoolyard brawl in Dagestan and helped his side start winning. The UFC lightweight champion recalled that his group was getting overrun until Nurmagomedov arrived with reinforcements.
Dagestan Schoolyard Fight
Makhachev said the clash involved roughly 500 fighters on each side. He and his classmates were taking the worst of it against older opponents when the balance shifted.
“We were too young, but on the other side they had older guys, so we struggled against them. We needed some fire.”
He said that fire came when Khabib arrived with Hussein and Musa. “Then Khabib and some of his friends — Hussein, Musa — joined us. Things turned our way and the other guys started running away.”
Nurmagomedov And Makhachev
Khabib was three years older than Makhachev, and both grew up in the mountains of Dagestan. Makhachev trains under Nurmagomedov’s coaching now, linking the childhood story to the relationship that still shapes his career.
The recollection also fits the rough environment both men have described from growing up in Dagestan, where street altercations were part of daily life. This account came this week as Makhachev revisited the brawl in an interview and used it to explain how quickly the fight changed once Nurmagomedov’s group joined in.
UFC 330 In September
Makhachev is scheduled to defend his title next at UFC 330 in September, carrying a 28-1 record into that fight. The memory of the schoolyard brawl sits alongside that run, with the champion still tied to the coach who helped turn a childhood fight in his favor.
