Woman shot on Amtrak train in Wilson, Wral reports
wral reports that a woman was hospitalized Sunday after being hit by gunfire on an Amtrak train passing through Wilson on Saturday night. Deputies with the Wilson County Sheriff's Office were called to reports of gunshots involving the train around 11:15 p.m. near Boswellville Road and Lely Road.

When deputies reached the train, they found the woman with a gunshot wound to her head. Deputies said she was alert and conscious when first responders arrived, and EMS took her to ECU Health Medical Center for treatment.
Deputies determined the train was shot at while it was passing through Wilson city limits. That left investigators trying to match the rail line incident with the area where officers in Wilson believed the first shots were fired.
Walnut Street investigation
Wilson police said they believed the initial shooting happened in the 600 block of Walnut Street. The Wilson Police Department said its investigation was ongoing and asked anyone with information to call 252-499-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
The case centers on a passenger train moving through the city when gunfire struck a rider, and police are now working from two locations tied to the same sequence: the train's path through Wilson and the Walnut Street block investigators identified. Anyone with information can pass it directly to detectives through either number.
