Melania Trump Launches Trumps Kids Accounts for Foster Youth

Melania Trump launched trumps kids Fostering the Future Accounts on Thursday, June 11, at the White House, giving youth in foster care a new savings and investment option. The First Lady said the accounts are designed to help foster youth become fiscally autonomous in adulthood.

Twenty-three governors have already pledged to set up the accounts for children in their states’ care. The program was developed with the Department of the Treasury and is described as America’s first savings and investment vehicle for youth in foster care.

White House June 11 launch

The launch followed another White House event two days earlier, when Trump recognized six student National Champion Teams at the Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge National Champion Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, June 9. The week placed children and youth at the center of two separate events tied to education, technology, and financial preparation.

Scott Bessent, the US Treasury Secretary, was part of the partnership behind the new accounts. That puts the Treasury inside a program aimed at long-term financial stability, not short-term aid.

Twenty-three governors

The pledge from twenty-three governors gives the program a state-level path forward for children already in foster care. The accounts are meant to follow them into adulthood, with the stated goal of building independence through savings and investment.

For foster youth, the practical significance is immediate: a new account structure now exists, and states that join will determine how quickly children in their care can access it. The next step sits with governors and state systems deciding whether to put the accounts in place.
