Dormition Cathedral at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery caught fire on Sunday after a massive Russian air raid on Kyiv. The strike killed at least four people and left 140,000 people without electricity in parts of the capital, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

The damaged site sits inside the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a sacred and historic monastery in Ukraine's capital. Ukraine's prime minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, posted a picture of monastery buildings in flames and wrote, "A brutal assault on our people and our heritage. This is the true face of Russia’s Orthodox values."
Klitschko said houses, cars and a high-rise apartment building also caught fire in Kyiv. Tymur Tkachenko, who heads Kyiv's military administration, said the city was under a massive Russian air raid as emergency crews moved through the capital.

Attacks Across Ukraine
The Kyiv strike was part of a wider wave of attacks across Ukraine on Sunday. In Kharkiv city, at least five people were killed in a double tap strike targeting emergency responders, and a baby was injured in a drone strike. Police said two people were killed and four were injured in Sumy, while a 73-year-old woman died when a drone hit a car in Zaporizhzhia.
On Monday morning, Ukraine's air force warned that the risk of missile and drone attacks continued. On Monday, three people were killed and three were injured in a drone attack on the Russian city of Tula, and one person was killed and nine more injured when Ukrainian drones hit an apartment building in Oryol.
Ukraine and Russia Strikes
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine hit two bridges connecting Crimea to Russian-controlled areas, along with an oil facility in Russia's Yaroslavl region and the Azot explosives plant in the Tula region. Zelenskyy said, "Ukraine is carrying out its plan of long-range sanctions against Russia and the assigned tasks regarding mid-range strikes in response to Russia’s refusal to end this war," tying Ukraine's strikes to its stated military response.
