Derek McInnes Set for Three-Year Rangers F.c. Deal

Derek McInnes has agreed a deal in principle to become the new rangers f.c. head coach, with the club moving to replace Danny Röhl before pre-season training starts next week. The 54-year-old is set to sign a three-year deal at Ibrox after Rangers moved quickly from their US talks.

McInnes And Ibrox

McInnes is the only candidate Andrew Cavenagh and Jim Gillespie spoke to formally, and final details are being worked through for him to leave Hearts. He guided Hearts to a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership last season, after being pipped to the title by Celtic on the final day of the campaign in his first season at Tynecastle.

The move brings McInnes back to a club he once represented as a player, and it comes after he turned down the chance to manage Rangers in 2017. That long wait is now ending with Rangers ready to put him in charge before the squad reports for training next week.

Röhl And RB Salzburg

Röhl has agreed a deal to join RB Salzburg, where he is set to replace Daniel Beichler. Rangers have two years left on Röhl's contract, so the club are due to receive around £2m in compensation for the outgoing head coach.

Rangers were sixth in the league when Röhl arrived last October, taking over from Russell Martin, and he pushed them into the title race before they fell short toward the end of last season. The change now gives the club a new head coach before the next phase of their summer rebuild gets going in earnest.

Summer Rebuild At Rangers

Rangers have already begun that rebuild, with Lawrence Shankland the first signing to come through the door. He joined from Hearts on a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months after a clause in his contract was activated, and he scored 20 goals in all competitions last season.

For Rangers, the immediate task is clear: settle McInnes' exit from Hearts, complete the handover, and have a new man in place before pre-season work begins. The club have moved fast once again, and this time the change comes with a head coach who knows both the pressure of the job and the ground he is walking back into.
