Tegueste Produced Four Pros as Pedri Rises to the Top
pedri González López began his football development in Tegueste, and the Tenerife municipality has now produced four professional footballers. He left for Juventud Laguna at 14, but his roots in the town still shape how people there tell the story.
Tegueste and Pedri
Tegueste is a town of about 11,000 inhabitants, yet it has produced Jeffren Suárez, Omar Mascarell, Joaquín González and Pedri. Samuel Pérez also developed there before playing in Primera and Segunda, giving the municipality a record that reaches beyond one standout name.
Pedri started in the CDAFB Tegueste’s Escuelita and played for his home municipality team until he was 14 years old. The CD Tenerife tracked him closely before Juventud Laguna gave him the final push toward professionalism, and FIFA regulations count only two years for him at the green team.
Norberto Padilla on Tegueste
Norberto Padilla said Tegueste was once known for good wine and bodegas, and is now known worldwide for Pedri. He said, "Antes éramos conocidos por el buen vino, las bodegas... y ahora a nivel mundial por un futbolista con una clase exquisita, que disfruta con lo que hace".
That change in image is tied to the way Pedri has stayed connected to the town. Rubén said he comes back to Tenerife to disconnect and reunite with his usual group of friends, describing the island as the place where he resets before reconnecting with Barcelona and Spain.
Pedri's Tenerife Base
Now preparing to debut in his second World Cup, Pedri carries a hometown story that Tegueste has turned into part of its own identity. For the town, the football argument is already settled: a small place with four professionals is no longer just a wine-and-bodega reference point, because its best-known player has put it on the map.
