David Tennant Leads Seven Additions to Only Murders In The Building Season 6
David Tennant, Nicola Coughlan, Jodie Whittaker, Jim Broadbent, Richard Ayoade, Adrian Lukis and Kathryn Hunter joined only murders in the building season 6 as recurring cast members. Production on the new season is underway in the UK, giving the comedy mystery series its first shoot outside the U.S.
Seven names for season 6
The seven additions widen a cast that already has the crime-solving trio of Charles, Oliver and Mabel leaving New York City for London’s newest mystery. Tennant brings two Doctor Who lead roles to the show, while Coughlan arrives after appearing on every season of Bridgerton. Whittaker adds another Doctor Who link, and Broadbent brings an Oscar from 2001 for Iris.
That lineup gives the series a clear British tilt at a moment when the show is shifting its setting as well as its guest list. Only Murders in the Building comes from co-creators and writers Martin and John Hoffman and 20th Television, and season 6 now has both a location change and a large recurring ensemble to support the move.
London changes the series map
The move to the UK is the first time the series has ventured outside the U.S., which is a practical break from the New York pattern that defined earlier seasons. The change puts the story in London and makes the casting list part of the production strategy, not just a roll call of familiar names.
Jennifer Saunders, Sean Teale, Simone Ashley, Amar Chadha-Patel, Rhea Norwood, Matthew Beard, Sharon Horgan, Martin Freeman, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Jamie Demetriou, Anjana Vasan, Jane Horrocks, Derek Jacobi and Lesley Nicol were also recently announced as recurring cast members. For viewers, that means season 6 is being built around a much deeper UK bench than the series has used before.
Hoffman, Short and Gomez
John Hoffman, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Dan Fogelman, Jess Rosenthal, Ben Smith, Jennifer Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan are listed among the executive producers for season 6. With that team in place and production already underway, the business move is clear: the show is not treating London as a one-off backdrop but as the season’s organizing idea.
For a series that built its formula in one city, seven new recurring players at once is the real signal. The cast expansion tells you season 6 is being designed to work on a larger scale, with the London setting and the British ensemble carrying the mystery forward.
