Fabián Ruiz weighs Betis return as PSG talks advance
Fabián Ruiz wants to finish his career at Betis while PSG moves toward extending his stay in Paris. The 30-year-old midfielder said returning to the club where he came through the youth system would be “lo más bonito,” even as he enters the final year of his current contract.
Ruiz and Betis
Ruiz said he would like to retire at Betis and called the club “mi casa, mi equipo.” He added: “Quién sabe si algún día volveré a España. Siempre he dicho que me gustaría retirarme en el Betis, que es mi casa, mi equipo. Esperemos que algún día pueda volver y terminar mi carrera allí; sería lo más bonito”.
The Spain international has spent his present season preparing with the national team before its debut in the international tournament. He was called up by Luis de la Fuente and has already won two Champions League titles in his career.
PSG contract talks
At PSG, the situation is moving on a different clock. Ruiz has one year left on his contract, and negotiations over an extension are in an advanced stage. He wants the next deal to be short, which keeps the possibility of a later return to Spain alive if the sides settle on terms that fit that plan.
That is the friction in the story: Paris is working on a renewal now, while Ruiz is speaking openly about the club he still sees as home. His representative, Loren del Pino, already said in spring that “Fabián no volvería al Betis con 38 años.” Ruiz is 30, and he has recently overcome a complicated injury, so the shape of the next contract will go a long way toward defining whether Betis remains a future destination or only a standing wish.
Luis Enrique and the next deal
For PSG, Ruiz remains part of Luis Enrique’s squad, and the club’s talks with him are advanced even as he concentrates on Spain duty. The next step is not a transfer decision but a contract one: how long he stays in Paris, and whether that leaves the door open for the return to Betis he has described in his own words.
