Salmon Arm RCMP Drive Bc crash closes Highway 1, leaves 4 in hospital
Salmon Arm RCMP said drive bc traffic was halted on Highway 1 east of Kangaroo Rd after a head-on collision reported at 7:08am on June 13, 2026. Four people in a rental Toyota Corolla were taken to hospital after the crash, and the highway between Salmon Arm and Sicamous was expected to stay closed until at least 5pm.

The Corolla carried four occupants. One got out on their own, while three were trapped and had to be extricated with the jaws of life. RCMP said all four were believed to be in stable but critical condition after being transported to hospital.
Investigators said the Corolla was eastbound and crossed the centre line while trying to pass an eastbound semi in front of it. The car was then struck head-on by a westbound semi with trailer. The Corolla spun into the eastbound ditch, and the semi also went off the road into the eastbound side ditch.

The semi driver was uninjured and cooperating with police. A collision analyst was on scene as flaggers redirected traffic at the east end of Salmon Arm.
RCMP thanked BC Ambulance, Salmon Arm Rescue Unit, Eagle Valley Rescue Society, and Salmon Arm Fire Department for helping remove the trapped occupants. Witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage who had not yet spoken with Salmon Arm RCMP, were asked to call 250-832-6044 and reference file 2026-3553.
Kangaroo Rd
For drivers bound for the Shuswap corridor, the immediate effect was a closed route and detours through Salmon Arm while crews worked the scene. The call for footage keeps the file active, and the crash analysis will turn on what investigators collect from witnesses and video already in the area.
