Seattle Weather: Sea-Tac hits 89 degrees, setting Flag Day record
Seattle weather reached 89 degrees at Sea-Tac Airport on Sunday, setting a new Flag Day record for the city. The heat advisory stays in effect for most of the region through Tuesday, with Monday night included before it expires at 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Forecasters said Seattle is likely to tie or beat the existing June 15 record high of 88 degrees on Monday. At 3 a.m. Monday, temperatures were still in the 70s in some Seattle neighborhoods, and lows around Puget Sound were expected to take much of the night to ease into the 60s.
Sea-Tac record on Sunday
The 89-degree reading at Sea-Tac topped Seattle's previous Flag Day record of 86 degrees. Forecasters also said one more day of low 90s is expected around the South Sound, with Seattle near 90 depending on how much sunshine breaks through increasing cloud cover.
Some of the places expected to hit 90 on Monday include Issaquah, Maple Valley, Puyallup, Auburn, Lakewood, Tacoma, Olympia, Centralia, Shelton and Elma. Wenatchee and Omak are forecast to reach the upper 90s.
Monday night across Puget Sound
Forecasters described the overnight conditions as “tough sleeping weather” for homes without air conditioning. That pressure comes before the region starts to cool Tuesday, when the marine push is expected to reach Puget Sound.
The broader shift follows a low-pressure system sliding in from Canada toward Montana, which forecasters said will change the pressure gradient and drive onshore flow. That onshore flow should pull cooler Pacific air inland.
Tuesday marine push
After the marine push, the region is expected to see morning clouds, afternoon sun and cooler temperatures, with temperatures settling mainly into the 70s for the rest of the week. Forecasters said mist or sprinkles are possible as low clouds move in, and the region may pull down some mist or drizzle by Wednesday morning.
A few days could climb back to 80, including Friday and Sunday. On Monday, Belgium vs. Egypt was expected to have about 85 degrees on the pitch at kickoff, with temperatures near 90 by the end of the World Cup soccer match.
