John Schneider Could Move Seattle Seahawks Before Training Camp
The seattle seahawks are through organized team activities and have a bit over a month before players start arriving for training camp. That leaves general manager John Schneider a short window to move the roster again, with the regular season beginning less than two months after camp opens.
John Schneider’s One-Month Window
Schneider could be busy over the next month, with players potentially moved and others signed before training camp. The team has already extended Derick Hall and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, giving the front office a clearer picture of two pieces it wanted to keep in place before the calendar flips toward camp.
That stretch also sits between OTAs and the first real pressure point of the summer. Once players begin reporting, the room to finish a deal or make a roster change shrinks fast, and the Seahawks are not entering that period with the same roster they had earlier in the offseason.
Riq Witherspoon And Boye Mafe
Riq Witherspoon is the next name that could move, and an extension for the cornerback is likely soon. He can line up close to the line of scrimmage or outside at cornerback, a flexible role that makes him one of the more valuable pieces still in line for a new deal.
Witherspoon could command an average annual salary of above $30 million. Boye Mafe is no longer part of that picture after walking away in free agency to the Cincinnati Bengals for $60 million over three seasons, a departure that already changed the Seahawks’ edge-rush depth chart before camp even begins.
Hard Knocks And August 11
The Seahawks also have another date hanging over the summer: HBO’s Hard Knocks will return on Tuesday, August 11, at 9 pm local time, and Seattle was chosen to be featured on the series. That puts the team in the spotlight while it is still sorting out the last wave of offseason business.
Mike Macdonald’s group has already moved through OTAs, and the next month now becomes the real checkpoint. If Seattle adds another deal or another roster move, it will happen before the first camp arrivals and before the season’s final buildup tightens around a roster that is still taking shape.
