PUC crews start hydro pole replacements north of Queen Street — Sootoday.com

PUC line crews will move into the East Street road construction zone next week to replace existing hydro poles north of Queen Street, sootoday.com reported in a project update for neighbouring residents and businesses. The work comes as utility and road reconstruction on East Street continues from Bay Street to Wellington.

Dan Bertolo, the Tulloch Engineering representative overseeing the project, said next week installation of sanitary main will continue and work could move on to storm sewer and watermain work at the lower end of East Street.

Bertolo said the project moved steadily forward this week despite a little rain. He said the work consists mainly of installation of sanitary sewer and will continue into next week.

He also said the Bay Street through traffic lane is a little more restricted after the sewer bypass discharge had to be relocated to a maintenance hole further out into Bay Street. Traffic, he said, seems to have adapted nicely.

Queen Street remains open

Bertolo said there are no changes anticipated to traffic controls or access next week, and Queen Street continues to remain open. The pole replacement adds another piece of work to a project already moving through several utility stages at once.

The East Street reconstruction is expected to reach substantial completion by late fall 2026, with final work including the surface lift of asphalt scheduled for completion next year.
