David Mcgoldrick Joins Mansfield Town After Barnsley Exit
David McGoldrick has left Barnsley after turning down a new deal at Oakwell and joined Mansfield Town. The 38-year-old moves on after scoring 18 goals in all competitions last season, and Barnsley now go into pre-season with only one striker option on the books.
McGoldrick Leaves Oakwell
McGoldrick had signed a one-year deal and was Barnsley’s top scorer last season, which made his departure the clearest attacking change in the club’s summer. He is also moving within League One, so this is not a step into a different level or a short-term loan move.
Barnsley wanted to keep him, but he turned down their offer of a new deal and chose Mansfield Town instead. That leaves the club with a direct gap in the squad, because last season’s most productive forward is no longer available for the work that was set up around him.
Leo Farrell And Barnsley
Going into pre-season, Barnsley were left with just 20-year-old Leo Farrell as a striker option. That is the part of the move that changes the picture most for the club, because the next group of training sessions now has to be built around a much thinner forward line.
McGoldrick’s 18-goal return explains why this departure matters beyond one transfer. Barnsley will look to strengthen in that area, and the club’s immediate task is to turn one open striker spot into enough depth before the season builds on top of them. Mansfield gain an experienced scorer; Barnsley are left to solve the shortage.
