Joe Foulkes Joins Grimsby Town on One-Year Deal
joe foulkes has joined Grimsby Town on a free transfer and signed a one-year contract with an option to extend by a further year. The 22-year-old right-back arrives after a standout spell at Kidderminster Harriers, giving David Artell another experienced option on the right side of defense.
Grimsby moved for a player who has already passed 100 senior appearances and has stepped through different levels of the game. Foulkes also brings recent promotion experience after Kidderminster went up through the National League North Play-Offs.
Foulkes and Grimsby Town
Artell said Foulkes will provide competition for Harvey, and he pointed to the defender’s bravery on the ball. He also said that in Foulkes’ last few games, he had a metal plate in his cheekbone, a detail that fits the edge Grimsby are getting with the signing.
Foulkes came through Walsall’s academy, signed his first professional contract in 2021, and had two loan spells with Kidderminster before returning there permanently in the summer of 2024. He made his EFL debut in the 2023/24 campaign and featured regularly in League Two before that permanent move back.
Kidderminster Harriers Record
The new Grimsby player was named Kidderminster Harriers’ Young Player of the Year after the 2022/23 season, then followed that with selection in the National League North Team of the Season. Those marks sit alongside his promotion-winning year, which is the clearest reason Grimsby saw him as more than a depth signing.
Foulkes said he was delighted to be at Grimsby Town, called the club a massive football club, and said the opportunity came at the right time. He added that the club’s progress and direction made it the perfect place for him to continue developing his game.
Blundell Park Move
He also said he learned a lot at Kidderminster, felt he had matured as a player and a person, and is ready for the challenge of stepping back into the Football League. Grimsby get a 22-year-old defender with senior mileage, promotion experience, and a contract that can run into a second year if both sides want it.
