Davis Martin Leads White Sox Vs Yankees Series at 38-32
white sox vs yankees opened Tuesday night with Chicago bringing a 38-32 record into New York for a three-game series. Davis Martin was scheduled to start against Gerrit Cole at 7:05 pm ET, and the White Sox entered tied with the Guardians for the AL Central lead.
Martin Versus Cole
Martin brought a 2.41 ERA and a 2.39 FIP across 13 starts, with a league-leading nine pitching wins. He gave up six runs in 4.2 innings against the Twins in his first start of June, then shut out the Braves for six innings in his most recent appearance.
Cole came in after being knocked out in four innings against the Guardians last week. He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in that outing, and he had not faced the White Sox since August 2023.
Yankees Return Home
The Yankees returned home after taking two out of three from the Blue Jays over the weekend. Paul Goldschmidt and Ben Rice supplied ninth-inning home runs in the two wins, giving New York momentum before the series opener.
The White Sox arrived with one absence that stood out. Munetaka Murakami was on the injured list and was out for the series, while Braden Montgomery’s walk-off home run in his MLB debut last week added another recent note to Chicago’s lineup story.
Rodón, Kay, Burke
The pitching line kept building after Tuesday. Carlos Rodón was scheduled to start Wednesday against Anthony Kay, and Rodón carried a 2.35 ERA over his last four starts and 23 innings.
Thursday brought Ryan Weathers against Sean Burke. Weathers had allowed 16 runs in 17 innings over his last three starts, including seven home runs, which put more weight on Chicago’s chance to keep taking advantage of a long series.
For a White Sox club sitting at 38-32 and tied for first in the division, this trip was more than a June stop. Three games in New York will test whether that start holds up against a Yankees staff that has already been through a tough outing from Cole and a home series win over Toronto.
