Eric Chort Says Gta6 Is The Ogre Shaping 2026 Releases
gta6 is already warping the 2026 release calendar, and Eric Chort says Asobo had to plan around it while Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy heads toward 27 August 2026. The producer called Grand Theft Auto 6 the biggest force in the market, with other publishers moving games into September or February 2027 to stay clear of its November arrival.

"All the studios in the world were thinking about it," Chort said during a recent chat with Eurogamer. He added, "All along the production, we were like, okay, our release date could be this year - and there's GTA," laying out the pressure that followed the project through production.
Chort was even sharper about the scale of the problem: "When you know that GTA is coming, you know that in terms of marketing, in terms of players, the time to play games, GTA is like the ogre, it's the biggest one." He followed that with the line studios live by now: "So you try to adapt, you...try to avoid it."

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is scheduled to release on 27 August 2026, which leaves Asobo in the same release window that other publishers are trying to escape. Chort said, "As a studio, this is the best you can do," before adding, "You try to make the best game possible with what you have - the more authentic one. Have your identity make it different; try to make it different from all the other ones. After that, you've done your best and you'll see. But definitely it's an odd year to go out."
That timing explains why the late-2026 slate is already being reshaped. Publishers have moved titles into September or February 2027 to avoid GTA 6's November arrival, and Phantom Blade Zero has moved closer to GTA 6 to win back some breathing space. For Asobo, the practical play is not to pretend the collision does not exist, but to ship on its own date and lean on identity instead of chasing the same launch lane.
November Pressure
The release calendar is now doing the sorting for studios. GTA 6 had a proposed autumn 2025 release date before the market started adjusting around its November arrival, and the current pattern shows how far ahead major teams are planning to keep room for it. For players, that means some late-2026 releases are already being nudged away from the same crowded window, while Asobo keeps its own August date on the board.
