Colt Keith Powers Tigers Past Astros 9-3 in Opener — Tigers - Astros
Colt Keith powered tigers - astros with three home runs and six RBIs as Detroit beat Houston 9-3 on Monday night in the series opener. The Tigers now get the first chance to lock up the series in Detroit on Tuesday at 8:10 p.m. ET.
Keith Changes The Series
Keith did the damage that defined the opener. Spencer Torkelson added a home run in the third inning, and Kevin McGonigle also went deep for Detroit, which turned a tight early game into a comfortable finish.
Houston got solo and two-run swings from Jose Altuve and Isaac Paredes, but the Astros never matched Detroit's power output. Hunter Brown is scheduled to start Tuesday for Houston, and Framber Valdez will face his former team for the first time in the same game.
Detroit At 30-42
The win left the Tigers at 30-42, including 12-26 on the road, and pushed them into position to take the series after one game. Houston fell to 33-41 and 16-20 at home, and the Astros now have to stop a three-game skid from growing longer.
Both clubs have dropped far from last season's Wild Card chase, when they were battling for the final spot in the American League. Houston is also 4.5 games behind the first-place Seattle Mariners, which makes Tuesday's meeting in Detroit more than a midweek reset for a pair of teams trying to hold ground.
June 16 In Detroit
The rematch is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 8:10 p.m. ET, with coverage listed on Detroit Tigers, MLB.TV - Detroit Tigers, and Space City Home Network. The teams are also scheduled for a four-game set in Detroit at the end of June, so this series opener is only the first piece of a longer stretch between them.
