Shai Gilgeous-alexander Returns to Nike Basketball After Converse Run

shai gilgeous-alexander is returning to Nike after signing with Nike-owned Converse in 2020 and building his first signature line there. Nike said the move comes after back-to-back MVP seasons.

That shift sends him back to the brand he wore at the University of Kentucky and in his earlier NBA days. It also moves one of basketball’s most visible signature-shoe players out of the Converse lane after the Converse Shai 001 arrived in February 2025.

Nike Welcomes Gilgeous-Alexander

“We are thrilled to welcome Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to the Nike Basketball signature family. Coming after back-to-back MVP seasons, we are excited to build on Shai’s incredible impact with Converse as one of the most creative leaders in the game.”

The wording points to a clean handoff inside the same corporate family. Gilgeous-Alexander leaves Converse branding behind for the Nike Basketball signature family, and Nike is tying the move directly to the production line he built after becoming a centerpiece player.

Converse Shai 001 Impact

The Converse Shai 001 was introduced in February 2025 during his first NBA MVP season. By 2026, he had already paired the sneaker with an NBA Championship, Finals MVP and a second MVP.

The shoe has been a hit since launch, and some colorways, including the “Butter” colorway, have resold for multiple times their retail price. That gives this move a built-in audience before a new Nike-branded chapter even begins.

Shai 002 Branding Still Open

There is no word yet on whether the Shai 002 will feature Converse or Nike branding. For buyers, that leaves the next model as the most immediate piece to watch, because the brand on the shoe will shape how the line is positioned after this switch.
