Tre Phelps Powers Georgia Past Texas 2-0 — Uga Baseball Game Today
Georgia won the uga baseball game today, blanking Texas 2-0 on Tuesday night in an elimination game at the Men's College World Series. The Bulldogs moved into the semifinals and set a program record with 53 wins in the same swing.
Tre Phelps Opens the Scoring
Tre Phelps broke the scoreless tie with an RBI double to left field in the fifth inning. He later posted, "OH YEAH TRE ?" after the hit, and Georgia had the lead it needed with Luke Harrison's no-hitter gone after 4.2 innings.
That swing changed a tight game into a chase. Georgia added its second run on Rylan Lujo's sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, enough to stay ahead while Texas finished with four hits.
Dylan Vigue and Justin Byrd
Dylan Vigue and Justin Byrd combined for 12 strikeouts, and Georgia allowed only four total hits. Texas entered the night 5-0 in the NCAA tournament, but the shutout ended that run and sent the Longhorns out of the bracket.
Georgia and Texas arrived at Omaha as two of the three highest national seeds left standing, so this matchup carried more than a simple elimination tag. Georgia now has to beat Oklahoma twice to reach the championship finals, and the first chance comes Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
