Nanaimo RCMP seek stolen Mossberg 500 shotgun, person of interest
Nanaimo RCMP are looking for a stolen Mossberg 500 Mossy Oak 12-gauge pump action shotgun taken from a parked truck on Cameron Road. The theft happened on June 6, and police are also trying to identify a man seen near the vehicle around 3 a.m.
Anyone who knows where the shotgun is, or who has information about the theft, can call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345. Police said the man is only a person of interest at this stage because he may have information that can further the investigation.
Cameron Road truck
The truck was parked in the 100-block of Cameron Road near the Maritime Museum when someone smashed the rear passenger window and took the shotgun between midnight and 11 a.m. on June 6. A blanket was also taken, and police believe it had been covering the shotgun and a bank card.
No ammunition was taken from the vehicle. That leaves the firearm itself as the item police are trying to recover, along with any information that could identify the person seen walking toward the truck around 3 a.m.
Man near the vehicle
RCMP described the man as Caucasian and said he was wearing a black baseball cap, a black long sleeve shirt, black pants and white runners. They have not identified him as a suspect. “At this point in the investigation, he is only a person of interest as he may have information that can further the investigation” RCMP said.
The public tip line is now the practical next step for anyone who saw activity on Cameron Road that night or who later comes across the shotgun. Police are trying to match the theft, the damaged truck and the man they saw near the vehicle with the same June 6 timeline.
