Tnt Sports Channel 5 Deal Sends Tour de France Highlights to 5
Channel 5 has struck a tnt sports channel 5 deal that will put daily Tour de France highlights back on free-to-air UK television and add live coverage of the 2027 Grand Départ. The three-year agreement also gives viewers a nightly 7pm highlights package across cycling’s three Grand Tours.
Channel 5 and TNT Sports
Warner Bros. Discovery and TNT Sports announced the deal with Channel 5 on Wednesday after a competitive tender process. Scott Young said the partnership “represents a major step forward in expanding the reach of elite cycling across the UK”.
Reemah Sakaan said, “The Grand Tours are the most prestigious cycling events in the world, watched and adored by millions, and we are delighted that 5 will be their new free-to-air home in the UK”. The line-up puts Channel 5 in place as the third free-to-air UK channel to carry cycling’s biggest race after ITV and Channel 4.
Tour de France highlights
The highlights package will be fronted by Rebecca Charlton and air at 7pm every night. Channel 5 will show daily highlights of the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España, with free-to-air UK highlights for the Tour de France and Vuelta a España running from 2026 to 2028.
Giro d’Italia highlights will be available in the UK from 2027 to 2029. Channel 5 will also broadcast the 2027 Tour de France Femmes daily highlights, widening the same package to women’s racing rather than splitting it into a separate slot.
2027 Grand Départ
The most immediate live prize sits in 2027, when Channel 5 will broadcast the UK Grand Départ free-to-air, including the opening three stages of the men’s Tour de France and the opening three stages of the women’s Tour de France. Those stages will run across England, Scotland and Wales.
Paul Bush said, “We want to bring the 2027 Grands Départs to as wide an audience as possible, so it is fantastic news that fans can look forward to following this year’s edition with free-to-air coverage to build their excitement for what to expect when the Grand Départ arrives in Britain in 2027”. The move comes after ITV’s longstanding Tour de France coverage ended when Warner Bros. Discovery secured an exclusive rights deal running until at least 2030.
For viewers, the change means a clear free-to-air route back into the Tour de France window, with nightly highlights now fixed at 7pm and live British-stage coverage on Channel 5 in 2027.
