Rockstar is giving gta 5 owners on PS4 and Xbox One a free upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series versions on Thursday. PC players can also move from the Legacy version to the Enhanced version.
The change covers players who already bought the older console editions, and the upgraded release adds better visuals, ray tracing, new content and support for SSDs, the DualSense controller and better audio. Rockstar had charged $10 for the same upgrade before Wednesday.
Rockstar And March 2022
Rockstar first released the PS5 and Xbox Series versions of Grand Theft Auto 5 in March 2022. The new offer gives owners of the earlier PS4 and Xbox One releases access to that version without paying again.
The upgraded edition also includes Hao's Special Works for high-performance vehicles and upgrades, along with Career Progress rewards. For players who have stayed on the older versions, the free transfer removes the price barrier that had applied before Wednesday.
Grand Theft Auto 6 On Nov. 19
The timing comes as Rockstar prepares Grand Theft Auto 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles on Nov. 19. Rockstar has said pricing and preorder information for Grand Theft Auto 6 have yet to be released.
That leaves GTA 5 players with a clear choice this week: move to the newer version at no cost and keep playing on current hardware, or stay on the older release while the next game approaches. For anyone still on PS4, Xbox One or the PC Legacy version, Thursday is the point when the newer build becomes available without the previous $10 charge.
