Teyana Taylor is circling to star in The Parlay, the Amazon MGM Studios and HyperObject Industries feature reteaming Daniel Kaluuya with director Shaka King. Taylor, an Oscar‑nominated actress and recording artist who broke out in 2023’s A Thousand and One, would join a project being positioned as an action crime thriller.
Teyana Taylor Circling Update
Daniel Kaluuya and Shaka King are attached to The Parlay, which is based on an original spec by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie and is currently being revised by Akers, Bronkie and King. Adam McKay and Todd Schulman of HyperObject Industries, I’d Watch That’s Shaka King and Brandon Harris, and 59% Productions’ Kaluuya are set to produce, giving the package studio-level producing muscle at Amazon MGM Studios and HyperObject Industries.

Teyana Taylor has recent on-screen credits that include The Rip, All’s Fair, Straw and Scary Movie 6, and she’s attached to the Kevin Hart film 72 Hours; she will make her feature directorial debut with Paramount’s Get Lite, due in 2027. That mix of acting and a pending directorial debut alters how her participation will be evaluated against scheduling and creative needs for The Parlay.

Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie wrote the original spec and are known for Limetown; their track record includes adapting Limetown for television with Jessica Biel and Stanley Tucci, writing the theatrically released Him for Universal, and penning the sci‑fi thriller Control now in post for Studiocanal. Those credits explain why the studio and producers are keeping the script in active revision while final casting and financing align.
Taylor remains listed as circling — not officially cast — which leaves the film’s producers and Taylor in a pre‑deal state while script revisions and producer attachments are finalized; a public casting announcement should follow once the revisions secure studio and producer sign‑off, at which point production scheduling and contractual terms will be set.
