Ryan Moore rides Precise to Coronation Stakes win

Ryan Moore guided Precise to the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, and the 8-13 favourite delivered exactly what the race demanded. The win moved Moore to 97 Royal Ascot winners, leaving him three short of 100 after another sharp ride from the front end of the contest.

Moore said, “I just let her get into a rhythm and kept her going forward, we knew she'd stay well.” He added, “Aidan's horses always run right to the line. She's a high-class filly.” Precise finished ahead of Touleen and True Love, and the trophy went to King Charles III.

Precise at Royal Ascot

O'Brien trained Precise, and the result added another Royal Ascot winner to his week. He had already moved past 100 career wins at the festival, a number that sits alongside Moore's own climb toward a separate milestone.

The Coronation Stakes first ran in 1840 to mark the coronation of Queen Victoria, and this edition kept the event's line of strong favourites intact. Precise handled the step into this race after arriving as the market leader, then turned that status into a clean result under Moore.

Venetian Sun and the day

The same day also belonged to Venetian Sun, who won the Commonwealth Cup as the 11-8 favourite. She beat Division and Spicy Marg in that race, and Tony Bloom said, “We'd probably prefer a bit of cut in the ground but she can race on all grounds and this is amazing,” before adding, “It was a tough race but she was tough enough in the end and the great racehorses do win these difficult finishes when it's close.”

That earlier result sharpened the shape of the card for O'Brien's team, with one winner following another at Royal Ascot. Venetian Sun had won the Albany Stakes at Ascot last year, and the Commonwealth Cup completed a fast-moving day before Precise answered in the Coronation Stakes.

Moore’s 100-win chase

For Moore, the count now sits at 97 Royal Ascot winners. Three more wins would take him to 100, and this ride kept the number moving after a week that has already pushed O'Brien past 100 career wins at the festival.

Precise gave him the cleaner storyline: a favourite doing her job, a trainer adding to a heavy week, and a rider edging closer to a rare Royal Ascot mark without needing a margin that flattered the scoreline. The next step is simple enough — Moore needs three more winners at the meeting to reach 100.
