Network Rail will start a £900,000 renewal of the Pollokshaws Road bridge in Glasgow on 13 July, beginning a project that combines repairs with repainting, drainage work and vegetation removal. Passengers and road users will see the first disruption in August, when closures and traffic controls are scheduled.
Pollokshaws Road bridge work
The bridge programme runs until September 2026, giving the work a long build-out after the first crews arrive. Network Rail says engineers will repair and repaint the bridge, then carry out vegetation removal and drainage improvements at Pollokshaws Road in Glasgow.
For people using the route, the practical change is not limited to the site itself. Replacement buses will be in place during the disruption, and customers are being told to check online before they travel. That is the clearest immediate action for anyone planning to use the affected services.
August closures on Glasgow Central
The first rail closures are planned for 8 August and 9 August, followed by another two-day closure from 15 August to 17 August. Services between Glasgow Central and destinations such as Cathcart, Maxwell Park, Neilston and Newton will be affected during those periods.
Temporary traffic lights will also be set up at the nearby junction at Nithsdale Street and Allison Street. That adds a road constraint to the rail work, so passengers and drivers are facing the same project from different sides.
September 2026 deadline
The sequence is straightforward: work starts on 13 July, the first closures arrive in August, and the bridge is due to be finished by September 2026. For anyone travelling through the area, the renewal is meant to improve the bridge while asking them to plan around short, scheduled blocks rather than continuous shutdowns.
