Lewis Ferguson is the name on the brief, but the move now hanging over Rangers is Nicolas Raskin’s. The 25-year-old has made clear his intention to leave this summer, with Atalanta among the clubs exploring a deal.
Raskin has already built a strong case for a move. He has 145 appearances for Rangers, 14 caps for Belgium and a contract that runs until 2028, while Rangers value him at around £20 million.
Atalanta and Rangers
Atalanta have made contact with his representatives over the past month and are weighing up whether to step up their interest. The club have recent experience of moving high-value midfield talent after selling Ederson to Manchester United for £38.4million, which gives a clear scale for any fee they are prepared to commit.
For Rangers, the timing matters as much as the interest. Raskin joined from Standard Liège in January 2023 for £1.5 million and has become one of the most established names in the squad, so any sale would sit in the middle of a summer rebuild rather than an end-of-window cleanup.
Derek McInnes plan
Rangers are expecting offers this summer, but they are yet to field any solid enquiries for his services. That leaves the club in a holding pattern: they can set a price, wait for a bid to match it and decide whether to cash in or keep a midfielder under contract for another three years.
There is also a clean football reason for the delay in action. Raskin’s substitute appearance for Belgium in a 1-1 draw against Egypt shows he remains in the frame internationally, and that kind of profile tends to draw more attention as the window opens.
McInnes now sits in the middle of the decision. Rangers may use money from a sale to help him build his squad, but any deal still has to meet the number they have already placed on Raskin.
The next move belongs to the clubs circling him. If Atalanta or another side decide Rangers’ £20 million valuation is too high, the midfielder stays put; if a bid lands near that figure, Rangers would have a major call to make before the summer market moves on.
