Newcastle United want about £100million for Sandro Tonali. Tottenham Hotspur have now opened the Sandro Tonali Tottenham Transfer Link with club-to-club talks over a deal, moving beyond the earlier contact with his camp.
That shift puts the 26-year-old at the center of a live summer negotiation. He has a contract running until 2029, with a 12-month extension option, so Newcastle are working from a strong position even as they remain open to a sale if the price is met.
Tonali and Newcastle United
Tonali made 53 appearances for Newcastle United last season and scored three times. Since his return in August 2024, he has gone far beyond that sample, reaching 110 appearances with 10 goals and 10 assists, and he has formed a midfield partnership with club captain Bruno Guimaraes.
That output is the reason the valuation is so steep. Newcastle paid about £60.5m for him in July 2023, so their ask would demand a far bigger fee before they move at all. He arrived from Milan, was then handed an immediate 10-month suspension in October 2023 after being found guilty of breaching rules on gambling by the Italian Football Federation, and missed the rest of that season plus Italy’s 2024 European Championship campaign.
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City
Tottenham are not alone. Manchester City are also vying to sign him if he leaves St James’ Park, and talks between Tonali’s representatives and both suitors continue.
For Tottenham, the next hurdle is simple and expensive: personal terms and a bid that matches Newcastle’s demand. Until that money is on the table, the talks remain just that, with Newcastle holding the leverage and Tonali’s future still tied to whether one of the suitors decides to go the distance.
