Tyrrell Hatton posted a 2-over 72 in Round 3 of the 2026 U.S. Open and stayed tied for 29th at 4 over entering Sunday. He was still in the mix after a gusty day at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.
Shinnecock Hills Tests Hatton
The third round turned on survival more than scoring. Hatton’s 72 kept him at 4 over through three days, a mark that left him T29 as the final round approached.
Round 3 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club brought gusty conditions across the board, and Hatton’s score showed how narrow the margin was. A single shot better would not have changed the headline, but the 2-over round kept him from slipping farther back.
Dustin Johnson And Hatton
Dustin Johnson and Tyrrell Hatton led all LIV Golf players at 4 over through three days. Johnson shot a 1-over 71 on Saturday, while Hatton matched the number of shots that left him sitting on the same total heading into Sunday.
Laurie Canter also shot a 1-over 71 in Round 3 and moved to 5 over. Joaquin Niemann carded a 2-over 72 and entered Sunday tied for 38th. Six LIV Golf stars made the weekend at the U.S. Open, which put several familiar names into the final stretch even as the course kept the scoring tight.
Legion XIII Enters Sunday
For Hatton, the number to watch is 4 over. That leaves him within range, but he needs a cleaner final round to climb from T29 and make any late move on the board.
The pressure now shifts to execution at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. Hatton already absorbed one difficult round in the wind; Sunday will decide whether that 2-over 72 was a holding pattern or the last step before a climb.
