Wagner Moura is in negotiations to join Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper in Warner Bros. Pictures’ untitled Ocean’s Eleven prequel, with Moura said to be lined up as the villain. For readers tracking the project’s momentum, that adds another named piece to a cast built around Robbie and Cooper before cameras are due to move in late July.

The film is expected to begin shooting in late July in Paris before moving to the South of France, and Warners has set Jun. 25, 2027 as the release date. That schedule turns the casting news into more than a development note: the production already has a start window, a release target, and a period setting locked around 1962 at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Robbie and Cooper’s parents

Earlier this year at CinemaCon, Robbie said, “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows …his parents,” signaling that she and Cooper are understood to be playing the parents. That puts the new film on a different track from the earlier Ocean’s Eleven films centered on Danny Ocean and his crew, and it is built to move without George Clooney and company.

Robbie is producing through LuckyChap, Cooper is directing, starring and producing, and Tom Ackerley is also producing. The setup matters because this is not a loose spin on the franchise; it is a prequel with a fixed family frame, a period setting, and a villain slot that can shape the entire story if Moura closes his deal.

The Secret Agent momentum

Moura arrives with awards heat of his own. He won best actor at the Cannes Film Festival for The Secret Agent and best actor in a drama at the Golden Globes for the same film, and The Secret Agent also earned him a best actor Academy Award nomination. The film additionally picked up nominations for best picture, best casting and best international film.

He also appeared as one of the lead voices in Lucasfilm’s Star Wars animated series Maul: Shadow Lord, and he will next be seen starring with Greta Lee in The Last House, which Netflix unveils Aug. 7. For Warner Bros. Pictures, the immediate question is simple: whether Moura closes and whether the villain part is the one that locks the prequel’s first real conflict in place before late July arrives.
