Diageo has launched a new AI-focused training module through Learning for Life for young people entering hospitality careers. The pilot session ran in Glasgow last month, and AI training will now be built into all Learning for Life courses across the UK.

Gillian Dalziel, Diageo Learning for Life programme manager, said the session was about building confidence, improving understanding and helping people use AI in a positive and practical way. She also said: "Hospitality will always be built on human connection, but the industry is evolving quickly."

Learning for Life in Glasgow

Learning for Life is Diageo's UK-wide employability programme, delivered with hospitality charity Springboard and supported by Movement to Work. The Glasgow session was the first delivery of the new module, which was introduced to help young people develop digital skills for hospitality careers.

Dalziel said: "Our learners told us they see AI everywhere, yet many haven't had the opportunity to explore how it can support their development and future careers." That points to the gap the module is trying to close: learners are already encountering AI, but not always through structured training tied to work.

Charlotte McGrath and UK courses

Charlotte McGrath, chief executive of Movement to Work, said: "The world of work is changing quickly, and we want young people to feel confident and prepared for the opportunities ahead." She also said: "These sessions are about helping young people build practical AI skills and feel confident using AI responsibly, to strengthen their job search and help them take confident steps towards their future careers."

The shift matters because the programme is taking a tool many learners already see in daily life and making it part of a nationwide employability course. For young people enrolling in Learning for Life, AI training is no longer a one-off pilot in Glasgow; it is now part of the course offer across the UK.
