Christopher Michael Veit was arrested in Florida after the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said a teenage girl was found hidden inside a clothes dryer at his Key Largo home on Sunday. Deputies said the girl called 911 from Miramar Drive and reported that she was being held hostage before officers responded at about 11:45 a.m.
Deputies later found the girl inside the dryer and took her to a local hospital for evaluation before she was released to a family member. The sheriff's office said Veit faces kidnapping, false imprisonment and unlawful sexual activity with a minor charges.
Miramar Drive response
The first report came from the girl herself, who told dispatchers she was being held hostage. That call sent deputies to the home on Miramar Drive, where they later found her hidden inside the dryer. The case moved from an emergency call to an arrest in the same day.
Investigators said Veit restrained the girl before placing her inside the dryer. They also said he took her cellphone after she said she wanted to leave the home. Those details put the arrest on a tighter factual footing than the headline alone: the alleged confinement, the lost phone and the 911 call all point to the same sequence inside the residence.
Monroe County Sheriff's Office charges
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the victim was not from Key Largo. Detectives also said they uncovered evidence of an ongoing sexual relationship between Veit and the victim, which is why the case includes unlawful sexual activity with a minor as well as kidnapping and false imprisonment.
Tameka Hall arrest report and Florida Panthers trade update show how quickly Florida headlines can shift across very different cases, but this one turns on a single urgent fact: a teenager was found hidden inside a dryer after asking for help.
Detectives keep working
Monroe County Sheriff's Office detectives said additional charges may be forthcoming. For now, the arrest and the hospital evaluation are the immediate next steps that matter to the family member who received her and to investigators building the case around what happened inside the Key Largo home.
Powerball lottery results can wait; this Florida case is about a teenager who reached 911, was found hidden inside a dryer and was then moved out of the home before the sheriff's office added more charges to the file.
