DCFC have brought Bobby Clark back on a permanent deal, completing his return from RB Salzburg for about £6m. The midfielder has signed a four-year contract after spending last season on loan at Derby County.
Clark gave Derby County immediate output during that loan spell. He made 45 appearances, scored four goals and added four assists across all competitions, then finished with the club's young player of the season award.
Bobby Clark and Derby County
The move turns a short-term spell into a longer commitment at a club that missed out on the Championship play-offs on the final day of the season. Derby now have their first summer addition in place, and Clark returns to English football after leaving Liverpool less than two years ago.
That earlier move sent him to RB Salzburg for close to £10m. His path there never settled into heavy league minutes: he made 17 league appearances for RB Salzburg, all of them in the 2024-25 season, before heading back to a side that already knows what he can do.
RB Salzburg and the fee
The price sits at about £6m, which is below the figure Salzburg paid when he left Liverpool. He was still partway through a five-year contract there and had only two years of it behind him, so the transfer closes one chapter early and opens another with Derby.
Less than a week before Clark's departure, Danny Rohl arrived from Rangers to take over as RB Salzburg manager. Derby's move does not change the basic read on the player: they have paid for a midfielder they already used, and they have paid after he delivered 45 appearances, four goals and four assists in the same shirt.
John Eustace gets Clark
For John Eustace, the key gain is clarity. Clark is not arriving as a gamble on profile alone; he is arriving with a full loan sample, an award from that spell, and a return that was completed before Derby had filled out the rest of their summer business.
What remains for Derby is the fee structure. About £6m gives the outline, but the move is now done on the terms already set out, and Clark begins the permanent spell as the first player into the squad for the summer.
