The USA has its Bosnia World Cup matchup: Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32 after winning Group D at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The game is set for next Wednesday night in the Bay Area, with kickoff at 8 p.m. ET on FOX and FOX One.
USA Takes Group D
The United States became the second nation to secure a spot in the round of 32 and did it by taking first place in Group D. That placement sends the USA straight into a knockout game against Bosnia and Herzegovina, with no room for a reset after the group stage.
The bracket setup matters here because the USA’s opponent is already set by the way the field is being sorted. Bosnia and Herzegovina reached the round of 32 as one of the top-eight third-place teams, so the matchup pairs a group winner with a survivor from the third-place pool.
Türkiye Result Stays In Frame
The USA lost 3-2 to Türkiye on Thursday night even though it had already secured first place in Group D. That result did not move the USA out of its knockout position, but it did add a complication to a clean group-stage finish.
For Bosnia and Herzegovina, the path was different. It finished group play with four points after a 3-1 win against Qatar, then advanced on goal difference after trailing Canada in the standings.
Bracket Math Across Groups
Other group results filled in the rest of the picture. Switzerland advanced to the round of 32 as the winner of Group B with a 2-1 win over Canada on Wednesday at BC Place Vancouver, while Canada moved on as the runner-up in Group B with four points.
Brazil advanced as the winner of Group C because of goal difference, and Morocco also ended group play with seven points and advanced. Japan finished second in Group F on five points and will play Brazil in the round of 32, while the Netherlands will face Morocco. Sweden has also qualified after its draw against Japan, and Paraguay and Australia played to a 0-0 draw that sent Australia through as the second-place team on goal difference.
The next step for the USA is simple: Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Bay Area next Wednesday night. The bracket has already turned group-stage results into a direct elimination game, and the USA now has one opponent and one kickoff time in hand.
