Nick Knowles says he will disappear from TV for a while while he stays at home to look after Katie Knowles before her next operation. The DIY SOS star’s pause is tied to a recovery that has already included emergency surgery, a ruptured cervix and the kind of pain that pushed Katie into the kitchen alone from 2-5.30am.
Nick Knowles on TV break
“I’ve been looking after my wife a lot because she has been through it. She’s had a lot of tough times. She's got another operation coming up,” he said, adding: “I will disappear for a while because I'll be looking after her. I'm always worried [about her], but she's a warrior and a fighter, so I know she'll be fine.”
That is the practical takeaway for anyone expecting to see him on TV: his absence is not being framed as a career move, but as a domestic pause built around care. For a familiar face built into TV schedules, that usually means projects around him will have to carry on without his front-line presence for now.
Katie Knowles after emergency surgery
Katie Knowles had a hysterectomy last summer after years of pain from polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis and adenomyosis, then needed emergency surgery when the stitches in her cervix ruptured 12 weeks later. She said the rupture meant “my insides went rogue” and that she was “in so much pain I couldn’t move or walk and just cried on my own on the kitchen from 2-5.30am. I nearly passed out from the pain.”
She also said she was “pretty much back to normal - although I started working the day after my hysterectomy, so that clearly didn’t help.” That detail matters because it shows how quickly she pushed back into routine before the rupture forced her back into hospital for blood tests, a CT scan and surgery plans that were moving in under 10 hours.
2021 to Braxted Park
Nick Knowles and Katie Knowles started dating in 2021 after their children became friends at a play centre, got engaged in 2023 and married on June 7 last year at Braxted Park, Essex. That timeline is now part of the story because the current break is being driven by a relationship that has already been tested by a long recovery and a frightening setback.
Katie also said there was talk of her bowel having been perforated, having to have open surgery and another lumbar puncture, with “three plans for surgery, and two of them were huge.” The next major operation is the unfinished part of this story, and Nick’s decision to step away from TV makes the support system around her the real headline, not his schedule.
