P Gueye changed Iraq vs Senegal in 89 seconds. He came off the bench and lashed in Senegal’s third goal, after Sarr had already turned the match with a finish from close range. The result was a second-half swing that left Iraq chasing the game in World Cup 2026 live coverage.
Sarr and P Gueye
Senegal’s control started at 58 minutes when Sarr poked home after Iqbal lost possession right outside his own box. That mistake opened the lane, and Sarr took it without hesitation.
Two minutes later, P Gueye made the gap wider. He scored from the right of the box and hammered the ball into the far top corner across Hassan, doing it 89 seconds after coming onto the field. Senegal then won corners after his left-footed shot was deflected at 62 minutes.
Camara and Iraq in
The action did not build in a straight line. At 50 minutes, Mbaye drove off the right wing before Hashim made a great tackle inside his own box. At 53 minutes, Jasim had a rare shot on target for Iraq and Diaw dealt with it, while Sarr forced a good low save from Hassan at 54 minutes.
Jakobs later lost his man down the right and crossed the ball at 65 minutes as Iraq looked ragged. By 67 minutes, the commentary said the third goal seemed to have taken the zip out of the game.
World Cup 2026 pressure
The wider picture was already tilted before Senegal’s burst. At 47 minutes, Iraq were still mathematically in with a shout of the next round, but the match commentary said they were realistically out. That left them needing a response they never found once Senegal’s second-half finishing took hold.
For Senegal, the sequence through Sarr and P Gueye turned pressure into control in a World Cup 2026 group match. For Iraq, one turnover and one fast substitute goal were enough to undo the rest of the half.
