Xabi Alonso Chelsea Summer Transfers: Garnacho Could Leave Chelsea

Xabi Alonso Chelsea summer transfers are already shifting Chelsea’s squad plan, and Alejandro Garnacho could leave Chelsea this summer as the club reassesses his place after less than 12 months. The incoming manager is set to hold more power than his predecessors at Stamford Bridge, putting the winger’s future under a sharper spotlight.

Garnacho moved from Old Trafford less than 12 months ago, but Chelsea spent £40m on the 21-year-old last summer and may now try to get most of that fee back. He has shown glimpses of what he can offer, yet his off-the-ball work needs serious improvement and he has not consistently delivered the level required of a winger at a club aiming to qualify for and compete in the Champions League.

Alonso Takes More Control

Alonso will be a key figure in Chelsea’s summer transfer business in the coming months. That matters because the club are not treating this window as a single move; they are planning multiple incomings while also looking to offload a multitude of players before the window closes.

There is already movement around the squad. Chelsea received almost a £47.4million fixed fee, with a potential £4.3m in add-ons, for Marc Cucurella earlier this month, spent in excess of £43m on Atalanta defender Marco Palestra this summer, and had Palestra in London to finalise his move. Official confirmation of that move is still awaited.

Chelsea’s Summer Overhaul

Chelsea are also working on a deal to bring Maxence Lacroix to Stamford Bridge, having identified him as their top defensive target this summer. That gives the club a clear pattern: add in defense, keep moving on players, and let Alonso shape the final balance of the squad.

Garnacho remains the most fragile piece in that reset. Bobby Vincent and Jake Stokes agreed that Chelsea need to move him on this summer, and the club could generate most of the £40m they paid for him if they choose to sell. He is a live-wire who can change a game from the bench, but Chelsea have not seen enough reliable output to treat him as untouchable.

Garnacho’s Chelsea Future

The next decision sits with Alonso and Chelsea’s transfer structure: keep a winger who has flashed quality but not consistency, or turn him into cash for more incoming business. That choice will decide whether Garnacho becomes part of the summer clear-out or stays as a short-term option in a squad that is already being rebuilt.
