Dion Charles Joins Blackpool on Loan for Final Huddersfield Town Year

Dion Charles will spend the final year of his Huddersfield Town contract on loan at Blackpool, giving the 30-year-old striker a clear reset after a limited return at Town. The move comes after he scored four goals in 55 outings and arrives early enough in the transfer window to settle his situation before the new season takes shape.

Chris Markham said the move suits everyone involved, with Huddersfield Town unable to guarantee Charles minutes in the coming season. He added that the loan gives Charles a fresh start and gives the club additional clarity as it shapes the squad under Martin Drury for the new season.

Blackpool Return for Dion Charles

Charles is no stranger to Blackpool. He came through the academy there before being released in 2014 without making a senior appearance, and this move sends him back to the club in very different circumstances.

For Blackpool, the deal adds a forward who already knows the club’s setup from the inside. For Charles, it offers a route back into regular football after a difficult spell at Huddersfield Town, where the numbers never matched the move that brought him from Bolton in January last year.

Huddersfield Town Squad Shift

The timing matters because Huddersfield Town have already altered their forward group. Ashley Fletcher arrived as a free agent earlier this month, and Alfie May has also gone out on loan to Doncaster Rovers, leaving Martin Drury with a different attacking picture to manage.

Drury said he would like to wish Dion the very best of luck with his loan move to Blackpool, and that Huddersfield Town had reached a mutually beneficial agreement. He also said he hopes to see Dion succeed with his loan club.

The immediate question now is how long the loan runs and what room Blackpool has to use him through the season. What is clear is that Charles starts this chapter with a clean route to minutes and Huddersfield Town has already made room for the next version of its squad.
