Kevin Lygo Keeps Itv Schedule Today Return for Coronation Street, Emmerdale

ITV schedule today has Coronation Street and Emmerdale off air on Friday 26 June, with both soaps bumped for World Cup coverage and currently billed to return on Tuesday 30 June. ITV is using the live football slot first, then handing the soaps back two days later in the guide.

That guide currently puts Emmerdale at 7:45pm on Tuesday 30 June for an hour-long episode, with Coronation Street following at 8:45pm. Both Emmerdale and Coronation Street usually air at 8pm and 8:30pm on weekdays, and both can be streamed from 7am that day on ITVX.

Kevin Lygo and the power hour

January brought ITV’s new soap format, with Kevin Lygo arguing that the shorter run is built around viewer habits. He said, “We believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule, to keep up to date with the shows.” He added that, “Streaming-friendly, 30-minute episodes better provide the opportunity to meet viewer expectations for storyline pace, pay-off and resolution.”

The practical value of that change is straightforward: the soaps are meant to feel easier to follow, but they are still being moved around by major live sport. That is the contradiction in ITV’s scheduling right now. A format designed to give more consistency is still exposed to disruption when football takes the slot.

Norway v France at 7pm

Friday 26 June is also reserved for Norway v France at 7pm on ITV, with kick-off an hour later at Boston Stadium in the USA. It is the final match in Group I for both teams, and the channel is prioritising that live coverage over the soaps.

Sunday 28 June brings the start of the knockout stage, and most of the round of 32 match-ups are still to be determined. ITV and the are dividing up those games as the teams become clear, which leaves next week’s schedule open to further movement before the soaps settle back in.

Tuesday 30 June on ITVX

Tuesday 30 June is the current billing, but it is also the point where viewers will see whether the channel sticks to the guide or shifts again for football. The safer reading is that ITV’s soap pattern is back only when the knockout-stage allocations stop crowding the schedule. For now, viewers of Coronation Street and Emmerdale should treat the guide as live, not fixed.
