Road closures start at 3pm around Principality Stadium for Metallica's Cardiff concert on Sunday, June 28. Cardiff Council says tens of thousands are expected in the Welsh capital, with the M4 and city centre likely to be busy all day.
Scott Road and Park Street will close from 7am so preparations can begin early. By midnight, the full closure around the stadium will still be in force, and parts of the Civic Centre will be limited to event parking, loading and access to private car parks.
Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street
Great Western Railway will add trains from Cardiff Central to Swansea, Newport, Bristol and Swindon. Transport for Wales will add capacity where possible across the South Wales network, while passengers for the Valleys and Vale of Glamorgan will be directed to Cardiff Queen Street station and other services will leave from Cardiff Central.
A full queuing system will start around 9.45pm, which is the part of the night that matters most for anyone hoping to leave quickly. Transport for Wales is telling passengers to buy tickets before joining queues and allow extra time; those two steps are the practical buffer against the crush after a concert of this size.
Vindico Arena and Sophia Gardens
The Vindico Arena park-and-ride facility in Cardiff Bay opens at 10am, with shuttle buses running to and from the city centre throughout the day. Parking there costs £15 per vehicle, while alternative event parking at the Civic Centre and Sophia Gardens costs £20 for cars and £30 for coaches.
Cardiff Bus services will be diverted during the road closures, and National Express coaches will continue to operate from Sophia Gardens. For local residents, walking or cycling is the cleanest option if the trip is short; for everyone else, the safest plan is to travel early, buy before queuing and use the service that matches the part of Cardiff they actually need to reach.
Principality Stadium bag policy
Concertgoers are also being reminded to check the Principality Stadium bag policy before leaving. Large bags will not be permitted inside the venue, so anyone carrying more than the basics will need to sort that out before the journey starts.
