Thibault Stéphane says Monaco blast left 3 injured

Monaco police and judicial officers responded Monday evening after an explosion near Rue Révérend Père Louis Frolla left at least three people injured in a residential building by the border with France. Thibault Stéphane said two people were in urgent absolute condition, while a third had a prognosis not engaged.

The blast happened shortly before 21:00. The Monaco government said at least three people were hurt, including two seriously injured, and that the victims were three members of the same Ukrainian family. The two parents were said to be in urgent absolute condition, and a minor was in relative urgency.

Investigators said a person was seen on surveillance cameras leaving a backpack in front of the entrance to the residential building before fleeing on foot toward Beausoleil. Bomb-disposal teams and judicial police officers were sent to the scene, and checks were set up at the Turbie toll near the Monegasque border.

X and Éric Ciotti

The Monaco government described the blast as apparently caused by an acte malveillant. Éric Ciotti wrote on X that it was “l’attentat commis” and called it a “tragédie,” adding: “Pensées pour les victimes, leurs familles et le peuple monégasque. Soutien total aux forces de sécurité et aux services de secours mobilisés”.

That leaves one practical question at the center of the case: who left the backpack, and what was inside it. For the injured family, the immediate issue is medical care and security at the building entrance, while investigators work from the camera images, the device, and the route toward Beausoleil.
