Dylan Timber signed for MVV Maastricht on Monday, and the move keeps Quinten Timber’s brother in Limburg on a one-season deal with an option for a second season. The 26-year-old arrives after an injury-hit spell at VVV-Venlo, where he managed only three Keuken Kampioen Divisie appearances last season.
The contract gives MVV a low-risk way to add an experienced defender. Timber has 36 Keuken Kampioen Divisie matches to his name in total, and MVV said he gives the club a chance to show what he can do.
MVV Maastricht adds a fourth signing
Timber is MVV Maastricht’s fourth signing, after Lennerd Daneels, Toni Vinogradac and Elias Sierra. The club finished nineteenth last season, so each addition is being made against a clear need to improve the squad quickly.
MVV presented the deal as a chance for Timber to reset after a difficult year. “Dylan heeft veel pech gehad in zijn loopbaan,” the club said on its website.
Three games, then a fresh start
The complications are plain. Timber was signed despite playing only three league matches last season because injuries kept him out for long stretches, but MVV still chose to tie him down beyond this season with the extra-year option.
That choice fits the profile of a player whose recent availability has been poor but whose background still carries weight. He came through Sparta Nijkerk, joined Jong FC Utrecht in 2021 and moved to VVV in 2023 before staying active in Limburg. He is also a one-time international for Curaçao.
Jurriën Timber and Quinten Timber
MVV framed the signing as more than a stopgap. “Desondanks is hij positief opgevallen bij onze voetbaltechnische mensen en we zijn blij dat hij bij MVV tekent. Dylan krijgt hier de kans om te laten zien wat hij in zijn mars heeft.”
For Timber, the next step is simple: earn minutes and make the option year relevant. How large a role he gets at MVV Maastricht this season has not been set, but the club has already committed one season to find out.
