Nintendo deployed Mario Kart World version 1.7.0 with two new Knockout Tour routes and a new sticker placement feature for Photo Mode. The free update adds Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally, and both routes open only after a player has cleared at least one Knockout Tour rally.
Drill Rally links Wario Shipyard and Bowser’s Castle. Boomerang Rally connects Salty Salty Speedway and Whistlestop Summit. Nintendo also added a new way to use collected stickers in Photo Mode, where they can be placed with frames or positioned with touch controls or Joy-Con 2 mouse controls.
Mario Kart World version 1.7.0
The update gives players two more routes inside Knockout Tour, expanding the mode without changing how access works. A player still has to clear at least one Knockout Tour rally before either new route becomes selectable.
Nintendo has also said additional Knockout Tour routes are planned for future updates. That leaves version 1.7.0 as a step in a broader content rollout rather than a one-time addition.
Photo Mode sticker placement
The other change sits inside Photo Mode, where collected stickers can now be placed in pictures. The feature works alongside frames, so players can combine both in a single image instead of choosing one or the other.
Sticker placement can be done with touch controls or with Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. For players who use Photo Mode, that turns stickers from a collected item into something they can position directly in the shot.
Mario Kart World on Nintendo Switch
Mario Kart World launched on June 5, 2025 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive launch title. The game has received many free updates in the past year, and version 1.7.0 keeps that pattern going with content that is immediately usable once the route requirement is met.
Players who want the new routes now need to clear a Knockout Tour rally first. After that, Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally are available, while Nintendo’s planned additional routes remain the part of the update that still points forward.
